There is only one way to get all of this work done, and that is to work smart, not hard.

Chances are your home has quite a few really heavy objects that you are going to have to deal with. What are the best ways to move these large heavy things? You may have a gigantic television set, some large wooden furniture, a piano, or an aquarium. What about your couch or bed? They are not exactly as light as a feather either. Here are some tips that will help you move some of these heavier objects with ease.

Teamwork

It is much easier to lift something that is heavy with more than one person. Don’t be foolish and try to do all of the heavy lifting yourself. You will only hurt yourself. This is one situation where asking for help can be a huge benefit. Your back will thank you when all of the moving is done.

Appliance Dolly

This is handy tool is a great invention, and it will allow you to easily move big heavy appliances. Stoves, no problem. Washing machines, no problem. Dryers, no problem. Refrigerators, no problem. There is no appliance that can not be moved with the help of an appliance dolly. Appliance dollies will put a set of wheels underneath any heavy appliance, and help move them with ease.

Furniture Dollies

These are a lot like appliance dollies in the sense that they are like putting your furniture on wheels. Furniture dollies are basically just small platforms with wheels that can rotate in any direction. Your couch may need more than one to help move it.

Measure first

It is also a good idea to measure your door openings before you try to cram your couch through that space. It might not fit through the doorway. You may have to turn it on its side or take it apart to get it to fit through the doorway. Measuring before you try to move it can help you make better decisions when it comes time to move it.

Push or pull

When push comes to shove it is always easier to push and object than it is to pull one. When you are pushing something you can put all of your weight and muscle power behind it. When you are pulling something, you will not have all of this extra power to your advantage.

Planning

With some very careful planning, it is easy to move even the heaviest objects. If you have done your homework properly, then you will find that moving something heavy is pretty simple. Planning will make your entire move much easier as well.

There is one part of your body that is stronger than the rest, and that part is your brain. We can’t tell you enough how important it is to work smart and not hard. You may have muscles, but you can do some serious damage to them if you try to lift something that is too heavy.

When it is time to move, and eventually it will be. You really only have two choices. You are either going to have to do all of the work yourself, or you will need to hire a full service moving company to do all of the work for you. Which moving choice is more affordable? That is the question that everyone is searching for, and the answer all really depends on how valuable your time is. If you make $500 an hour at your job, then it may be wiser to hire a full service moving company because your time is much more valuable, but if you are like the majority of the people in the world, you don’t make even close to $500 per hour. It may be a better choice to do all of the moving yourself.

If you are on a tight budget you may be able to save as much as 50% on all of your moving expenses by doing the work yourself. In most cases though the savings only amount to around 5%. The best way to find out how much your move is going to cost is to get a handful of free moving quotes. Having a couple of moving quotes will help you evaluate which moving option is the best for you.

What factors can change the cost of a move

There are many things that can change the cost of your move, but the number one thing is the distance of the move. The further you have to move, the more it is going to cost even if you choose to do all of the work yourself. You will spend more money on fuel, and it will take longer to get to your destination.

The time of year that you plan to move can also have a big impact on the cost. In the Spring time moving and truck rental companies are getting ready for their busy season which is right around the corner. When Summer hits it will be go time. Summer is the busiest moving season. This is the time of year that moving companies may have higher prices. They have plenty of business, and they don’t really need your business at this time, and in some cases moving companies may even raise their prices when Summer arrives.

If you want to save the most money, make your move in the Winter or the fall. This is the time of year that moving companies are looking for business. They will have the best deals, and most of the times moving companies will also even lower their prices on their services in the Winter.

So which method of moving is the cheapest? There are two many factors involved to determine. The only way you are going to find out is to do a little bit of math. Once you get your free moving quotes, you will have to compare them to all of the costs associated with self moving.

Every where you look you see people talking about the economy. They may be saying things like, “Times are tough,” or “The economy is way down.” People are not making as much money as they were ten years ago, and that also means that people are not spending as much money as they were ten years ago either. People are squeezing as much as they can out of every dollar that they make.

Every industry is directly affected by this, but there are a few specific industries that seem to be more affected than others. Two of them are: the real estate industry, and the moving industry. These two industries work hand in hand. Without one, the other would cease to exist.

There is a growing trend in both of these industries. People are starting to share homes. You could think of it as having a room mate or two, but one of the more popular room mate scenarios that both realtors and moving companies are seeing is grown couples living with their in laws. It could be the wife’s family that is sharing the residency, or it could be the husband’s family, but one thing is for certain, if you think moving is tough on its own try moving with your in laws!

It all boils down to how you choose to perceive things. Each family has its own leader. They may not talk about it, but one person in the family is the leader. With two families living under one roof there will be two leaders, and these two people will have a difficult time dealing with each other.

If you are going to be moving with your in laws, here are some tips that will make everything much easier.

Before the move even begins, set up some specific boundaries. Draw a line in the sand so to speak, and designate certain tasks to certain people. The hardest part about doing this is deciding who is going to be delegating the jobs. This is where the two family leaders will start to have problems.

The best way to do this, is over a big family dinner. Everyone will be in the same room, and everyone will have something to focus on other than the move. They will be eating. Once everyone knows what their specific jobs are, then everyone can get to work on the move. Once everyone has a common goal, moving will be as simple as the pie you had for dessert.

Now you have more helping hands. You have a huge moving team of two families. This should really help the move not only go faster, but it should also make the move go much easier. If an argument or disagreement does surface try to remind everyone that you are all in this together, and arguing is not going to help anyone get the move done any faster. You are all going to be living together very soon, and if you can’t come to any terms now, then living together is not going to be very easy.

There is a growing trend in the moving industry, and it is not necessarily a good one for consumers. More and more moving companies are choosing to do things their own way. They are writing their very own set of rules, and they are breaking all of the rules that have already been written. The government is cracking down on these rogue moving companies that are choosing to play by their own rules, and they should be. These moving companies are not treating people fair. They are out for one thing, and one thing only. They are out for money. These moving companies don’t really care about you, your family or any of your personal belongings.

The government has placed many undercover sting operations in parts of the country where moving is happening more often. One such operation uncovered some very interesting things in New Jersey. 25 moving companies where found to be operating without a license, and most of these 25 moving companies were also found to be operating without any type of insurance. Of course these moving companies are facing some pretty steep fines, but will the fines be enough enforcement to stop these rouge moving companies?

Some of the people busted in the sting were not even moving companies. One such person decided to take the truck from the company that he worked for and use it for his own personal “moving” services.

All of this information was gathered in a very short amount of time. The undercover sting only lasted for a total of four days. If the government uncovered this many rogue moving companies in this short period of time, just imagine what a long country wide investigation would turn up. They would find that there are thousands of moving companies out there that are operating without a license.

Moving is a really big business, and just like any other big business, there bound to be a few bad apples in the bunch. Approximately 37 million people move every year. This number is just going to go up as the population continues to grow. The numbers are looking good. Of those 37 million people moving only a very small percentage of people filed complaints. The government has setup a hotline for consumers to help report these rogue moving companies. The more people that help with this problem, the better off the 37 million people who move every year will be.

How can you protect yourself from these moving companies

It is pretty simple actually. The best way to protect you, your family and all of your personal belongings is to not choose a dead beat moving company. You can do this by staying away from the free classifieds websites on the internet. If the moving company is not willing to pay for any advertising, then they are most likely not even a legitimate moving company, and as always, if the deal sounds to good to be true, then it is. Don’t become part of the moving scam statistics. Doing a little bit of research on the moving company before you sign any documents can be a really big help.

Here is something that you do not see every day, and it is kind of comical when you think about it. What do you think of when you hear the words house moving? You think about the very basic concept of moving, but this term actually refers to moving an actual house, not the contents inside it. It takes quite a bit of engineering intelligence to accomplish the task of moving an entire house, and there are companies that are doing it successfully every single day.

One such company recently made a pretty big mistake when they showed up to move a dental clinic. They did everything that they were supposed to do. The house moving company showed up to the job site on time. They successfully jacked up the dental clinic and started to move it when a water main under the building burst. That is not supposed to happen. All of the water is supposed to be shut off before they actually try to move the house. The workers double and triple checked everything. They had all of the work orders in place, and all of the water had been properly shut off, but they did not double check the address.

Can you guess what they house moving company did wrong? They attempted to move the wrong building. Instead of moving the dental clinic, someone, somewhere got the address mixed up, and they started moving a school house instead. Luckily there were no students in the school house at the time.

Everything was resolved, and no one was hurt, but could you imagine if they had actually moved the school building? Everyone would have shown up to school the next day, but the school would have been gone.

This just goes to show that everyone can make mistakes, and moving is a really easy time for people to make some of the most odd mistakes ever. In this case, everyone had double and triple checked just about everything that they needed to, but one simple very important detail.

It is always difficult to think clearly during stressful times, and moving is known to be one of the most stressful times in a person’s life.

If you are going to be moving some time soon, then make sure that you double and triple check everything. Imagine if you hired a moving company, but you gave them the wrong address. The moving company would show up and start trying to move the wrong stuff, and it would all be your fault. The entire move would have to be rescheduled, and this is one mistake that would cost you quite a bit of money. The moving company may not even work with you at this point.

That is why one of the best moving tips is creating a list that must be double and triple checked. Start with the basics on your list. Who is doing the moving, and when the move is going to take place. From there the rest of the list is rather simple to create.

We are living in a time when identity theft is at an all time high. There are all too many ways that would be thieves can easily grab any or all of your very important and vital personal information. It is becoming harder and harder to protect your identity from these thieves. Unfortunately these thieves are hiding behind just about every single corner, and they are waiting for the exact opportunity to steal your information. Moving is just one example. There are already enough things that you will have to worry about when it comes time to move. Now you have to worry about your identity when you move too. You will have to take a few extra steps in order to properly protect your identity during this digital age.

This is a very serious issue. With your identity, a thief can spend all of your money. If you catch it in time, you may have no problems getting it all back, but one thing is for certain. It will be a huge inconvenience trying to get everything back to normal, and some people are never able to recover from identity theft. You may be out all of your money, but there are much worse things that can happen. Your credit could be ruined as well. This can have a life long affect that can prevent you from owning a house, owning a car, or obtaining any type of credit that you deserve. How can you protect your identity when you are moving? These tips should help.

When you move you will have to fill out loads of different paperwork. You will have to put in a change of address, and you will also have to update all of your financial records. This means that you will have to update your bank account information. If you have an auto loan, you will have to update the bank that is responsible for your car loan. If you have credit cards, you will be responsible for updating all of this information as well. As you can plainly see, there are plenty of opportunities for any of your sensitive information to be exposed, and you can bet that there will be plenty of thieves just waiting to grab it all. This is when you should be very cautious about who and where you display all of this information. It can be difficult to remember all of this when you are busy trying to do the one million other things that are required when you are moving.

Do not make any unnecessary copies of any of this information, and make sure that you properly destroy all of the copies that you will no longer need. Use a paper shredder to help you quickly and efficiently destroy all of the copies that you will no longer need.

Don’t fall victim to identity theft when you are moving. This is one time when it will really pay off to be extra diligent about all of your sensitive personal information.

Jim and Nancy are doing something that most newly wed couples are doing. They are looking for a place to live. They want to start their lives together, and there is no better way to do that than by finding their own place to live. Where are they going to go?

The whole world is available to them. They are young, they have good jobs, and most importantly, they have time on their side. Are they going to buy a home, or are they going to rent an apartment? Once they make that decision, they can start shopping for a new place to live.

Shopping for a new place to live with another person can be challenging. Each person will have their own ideas about what the place should look like, and they will not always agree. There has to be some sort of common ground, or there will have to be compromises made that benefit both people.

Before the house shopping starts, Jim and Nancy should sit down and discuss what they both want in a place to live. This will help eliminate any problems during the shopping process, and it will also make the shopping process faster.

Once Jim and Nancy find a place to live, they have even more decisions to make. They need to determine how they are going to move. Jim jokingly says to Nancy, “We should move like this.” Jim starts to dance across the floor. This is one of the reasons Nancy likes Jim. He is always so funny, but “Enough kidding around,” She says. This is a serious subject.

Jim is young, and he has quite a few young friends. He suggests that they handle the move themselves. It will allow them to save some money towards their new place. All they will need to do is buy the packing supplies, get his friends to help with the move, and rent a moving truck. “Problem solved!” says Jim.

Although Jim’s idea sounds good, Nancy is not sure about Jim’s friends, and she is not sure if they will have the free time to do all of this work. The stress of the move has started to wear on Nancy, and as a result her judgment has been clouded. She is also getting a little cranky. This is something that Jim has been made fully aware of.

Nancy suggests getting a few moving quotes from some of the movers in the area. Jim thinks she is wasting her time. Nancy goes ahead and gets some moving quotes without Jim’s knowledge.

Nancy goes online, fills out a simple form, and has quite a few moving quotes sent right to her smart phone. The first two moving quotes are rather expensive, but the third moving quote is right within their budget.

Nancy calls the moving company, and gets all of the information that she needs from them. She tells Jim about her discovery, and they both agree to hire the moving company for a full service move.

This is a common scenario that happens every single day as more and more people are using the wonders of technology to get great moving quotes.

Moving is tiring. Having a home based business is tiring too. How can you manage to squeeze enough time out of the day to move, and keep your home based business afloat? You will have to be burning the candle at both ends for a little while. Here are some tips that will help you get some much needed sleep at night, and keep your business running smoothly while you are moving.

Hire a moving company

Hiring a reliable and dependable moving company may be exactly what you need to help take the load off of you and the move. You can’t just ignore your business. You will need to spend your time keeping your business running smoothly, and hiring a moving company to do all of the work for you is a great way to do it.

If you think that hiring a moving company may be too expensive, then look at it this way. Your time is extremely important, and it is extremely valuable. If you don’t hire a moving company to help you move your business, how much down time will your business be facing? How much is that down time going to cost your business when the move is all said and done? You may lose customers, and that is something that you can’t get back. In order to keep your business alive, you have to make a certain amount of money each and every day. If you are not making that money, then your business will suffer as a direct result. You need to get a few free moving quotes, then you will be able to compare the cost of hiring a moving company, to the amount of money that you will lose by doing the move yourself. Once you have those answers, then you can make the right decision.

Do you need some temporary help

You may need the help of a few that only a few more hands can provide, but you don’t need to hire any full time employees. You are only going to need the help for a small amount of time. The best thing to do in this type of situation is to hire some helping hands through a temporary agency. You will know exactly how much it will cost, and you will also be able to tell them exactly how long you will need the help. It is a win, win situation.

Does your business have a slow season

Not every business has a slow season, but if yours does, then it would be the perfect time to plan the move. Moving during the slow season will make things easier on everybody. Your customers won’t be hounding you every single second of the day.

Make an announcement

Let all of your customers know that you are moving your business. They may be able to make some additional plans that would allow them to do their business with you before you move. Giving your customers a heads up will also let them know that you have their best interests in mind.

These tips should help you move your business, keep your customers happy, keep your business from going under, and keep your sanity.

Running a home business can be a very tough challenge. It can be very difficult to balance your home and business. It can be even more difficult to keep these two things separated, but what are you going to do with your business when it comes time to move?

Moving all of your personal items is a chore, but moving all of your personal items and moving all of your business items at the same exact time is even more of a chore. How in the world can you manage to do them both and keep your sanity? Here are some tips that will make moving your home office so much easier.

Organization is the key

If you are running a business from your home, then you most likely have quite a large collection of paper based documents. You will have all of your licensing information and probably much more. The Internal Revenue Service will require you to keep certain important tax documents on file for several years at a time. Hopefully you have all of these documents nicely organized. If you don’t, then you have a chore ahead of you.

You may find out that you have been keeping a lot of paper documents that you no longer need. Take the time to go through all of your documents and figure out which ones you no longer need. You may be holding on to a lot of stuff that you no longer need. The less stuff that you have to move, the easier it will be to do it.

Backup before you move

Computers are everywhere, and chances are you have a lot of your business information on your computer system or systems. Before you move anything, make sure that you do a full and complete backup. Keep your backup and your computer in two separate places. A complete backup will protect you if something happens to your computer. You will thank yourself later.

What about all of those wires

Most home offices have a rat’s nest of wires behind the desk. Some of these wires can easily be broken, and it can be a challenge to get them all organized. This is just one of the many jobs of moving a home office.

As you unplug everything, label each cable if they are not already labeled. Once again, you will thank yourself when it comes time to set everything back up. You would have made yourself a nice little road map that will make putting everything back where it belongs very simple.

Your electronics are fragile

That brings us to the last tip, packing all of your important electronics. Most of your office electronics are fragile. You may have multiple computers, printers, scanners and other types of equipment. These things were made to sit on top of a desk. They were not made to be moved around, bumped or dropped. Take extra care with all of your office electronics, and you will not have any problems.

Moving your home office is easy, but if you don’t follow some of these tips, you will find that it is quite a challenge.

Long distance moving will require you to move to an unfamiliar area. Unfamiliar areas can make you feel like you don’t really have a home, and then there are some of those really awkward moments where you may say to yourself, “I wish I had known that before I moved.” These types of moments can make you feel regret for moving.

It could be a feature of your new house or apartment. It could be something in the neighborhood. It could be something in the city. Moving to an unfamiliar place can easily bring loads of unsettling discoveries. How can you avoid these types of unwanted problems? The internet is a great way to get answers to all of your moving questions before you even move. It has made the world a much smaller place, and finding information on just about every subject imaginable is right at your fingertips. You just have to be willing to go out there and get it.

There are entire websites that will tell you everything that could ever want to know about the city that you are moving to, and some things that you would rather not know about, but that is the whole point. You need to find out everything. The good and the bad. These websites will tell you all kinds of information about the current population of your new city. You can learn about crime rates, average incomes, and what homes in the area are selling for. This type of tool will let you uncover some really valuable secrets that will keep you from having any of those awkward “I wish I had known that before I moved,” moments.

There are other sites that will analyze a city or a neighborhood on a much different level. It is good to know what kind of places there are within close proximity to your new house. If you have children you may be wondering where all of the local parks are. There are websites where you can type in your address and they will give you information like: where the parks are, where the schools are, what type of shopping is close by, where all of the local restaurants are, and even more. These types of websites can help you find all of the fun things to do before you even move to the new city.

If you want to take things to a darker side and you should, then there are also plenty of websites that will tell all of the bad things about a neighborhood. There are websites that will tell you if there are any child molesters in your new neighborhood, and where they live. You may not want to think about these types of things, but if you have small children, it is a must. There would be nothing worse than moving into a new house with your new family and finding out that your neighbor is a convicted child molester.

Using technology to your advantage can be a huge help when you move. It can uncover any unwanted issues before you even move in.
